Tommy Bowe thanks fans for support amid Ireland AM absence as he shares snap from hospital bed

Tommy Bowe has thanked fans for their well wishes after he revealed he was in hospital for a procedure on his knee.

It comes as Virgin Media viewers noticed the rugby player turned TV presenter was missing from his Ireland AM hosting duties in recent days.

Explaining his absence, Tommy shared an image from his hospital bed, saying: "Off to get the knee sorted again."

Poking fun at his hospital gown in the image of his legs, including the marker of his injury, he joked: "Think I suit a skirt!"

The former rugby ace went on to share a snap of his after surgery tea and toast delivery, penning: ‘Best bit!!’.

Tommy has had issues with his knee since he picked up a nasty injury on the field whilst playing for Ireland in 2015.

He has since returned home to recover, but confirmed he will be back to work in no time.

He said: “Thanks for well wishes… small tidy up on knee..joys of life after rugby!

“Back for the Ire/Aus match with Prime Video Sport on Saturday,” he added.

His co-host Muireann O’Connell has been joined by guest presenters including Anton Savage and Sean Defoe on Ireland AM this week, whilst he is recovering.

Presenter Alan Hughes has also been off air this week whilst he enjoys a holiday in the sun with his husband Karl Broderick.
