Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton overcome by emotion as they bid Celtic farewell

TOM ROGIC and Nir Bitton were overcome by emotion as they bid farewell to Celtic on the back of a Scottish Premiership title celebration.

The pair were honoured by standing ovations in the sixth and 18th minute of the match at Parkhead as Celtic battered Motherwell 6-0.

And both received huge cheers when being subbed on and off in the final day of the season for Celtic.

Bitton and Rogic have decided to leave the club in the summer to pursue other opportunities after a near-decade in Glasgow.

Rogic, when being subbed off, left the field in tears in the second-half as supporters rose to their feet in tribute to the Australian midfielder.

And discussing the emotional moment, Rogic explained: “I couldn't contain my emotion, it was hard. It's a special club, it's been an enormous part of my life.

"I came here when I was 20, now 29 I've experienced so many memories in that time. Hopefully this is the start under the new manager.

"It wasn't a decision I took lightly, but I feel the timing is right.

“Off the back of last season, this is enormous. It's a special season to go out on."

Bitton came on in the second-half and took the captain's armband from Callum McGregor for his final appearance.

And he too was touched by the response to his substitution and the special occasion as he played his final minutes for the club.

He said: “When I signed for this club I obviously knew the expectations were high.

“It’s about winning trophies, it’s about taking this club to the Champions League.

“I’m just happy to finish with this one.

“I’ve won a lot of trophies here, I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, injuries.

“But this club is just about winning and after last season, the players who have been here knew how much it meant for the fans and everyone involved to bring this title home.

“I’m just happy we did for them.”
