Tom Grennan slammed for 'out of line' BRITs remark to Ellie Goulding over risqué outfit

Tom Grennan has come under for a comment he made to Ellie Goulding while the pair presented an award at the BRIT Awards.

Ellie wore a black armoured plate with sculpted breasts to present a gong with singer Tom, and Tom couldn't seem to resist asking if they were her real breasts.

Both stars addressed the exchange the day after the BRIT Awards - with Ellie calling Tom 'an ally' when defending her friend amid the backlash online.

The Starry Eyed singer remained calm after Tom's quip about her breasts on Saturday night and joked hers are much further apart.

Viewers have blasted Tom over the comment, with one person saying on Twitter : "Tom grennan comment was so out of line to ellie goulding..."

Another said: "The scripts, the Tom Grennan asking Ellie Goulding about her boobs…in 2023?!"

A third person wrote: "Also how are people focusing on what someone is wearing and not the cringeworthy moment Tom Grennan decided to ask Ellie Goulding about her breasts on stage like that wasn’t hella inappropriate. Honestly eurgh."

A fourth penned: "That comment from Tom Grennan to Ellie Goulding was vvvv unnecessary, yikes."

Ellie hit back at the critics on Sunday, tweeting: "A word on BRIT / t** gate. I was wearing a beautiful breastplate, thank you all for appreciating it. My friend Tom Grennan is 100 percent an ally and we were having a bit of fun."

"No offence taken, no harm intended - and no other interpretations necessary," the mum-of-one added.

Tom also responded to the backlash on his own Twitter page, writing: "Love ya @elliegoulding. What started as a joke between Ellie and I before we went on stage came out all wrong.

"The nerves got the better of us, but that does not excuse what was said, and I sincerely apologise to anyone who was offended – that’s not me at all, and I’m sorry."

Meanwhile at the Brit Awards on Saturday night, Harry Styles fans couldn't contain themselves as the hitmaker thanked his former One Direction bandmates as he picked up a prestigious gong at the BRITs.

The award-winning singer who walked away with four wins, also appeared to take a swipe at the BRITs as he stated he was receiving the award on behalf of female artists.

While accepting the award, he said: "I want to thank my family for being the most supportive, understanding, patient, loving family I could have ever asked for.

"I want to thank my mum for signing me up for The X Factor without telling me, so I literally wouldn’t be here without you.

"I want to thank Niall (Horan), Louis (Tomlinson), Liam (Payne) and Zayn (Malik) because I wouldn't be here without you either, thank you so much."

After no female artist was nominated for the gender-neutral award, Harry added: "I'm very aware of my privilege up here tonight so this award is for Rina (Sawayama), Charli (XCX), Florence (+ The Machine), Mabel and Becky (Hill)."

Following his emotional speech, fans flocked to social media as they struggled to contain their emotions, with one writing: "Harry Styles won again for the best album of the year, Harry Styles thanked One Direction for everything they have done for him, HARRY STYLES IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER #HarryStyles #BRITs."

"@Harry_Styles thanked @onedirection at the #BRITs. My heart is full," tweeted a second

A third typed: "Nice of Harry Styles to acknowledge X Factor and the rest of One Direction tbh. Really nice. So many people forget where they started. #BRITs."
