Tom Cruise transforms into chaotic oil tycoon in upcoming satirical comedy film Digger.

Known for his death-defying stunts the 63-year-old transformed into a chaotic billionaire Digger Rockwell in a retrospective trailer released on Tuesday afternoon.

The trailer featured clips from across Cruise’s filmography – including from Top Gun, Mission Impossible and Jerry Maguire – before adding yet another character to the Hollywood star’s film roster, stepping into the shoes of the southern cowboy-like billionaire.

Around three minutes in, the trailer cuts to a clip of what appears to be Cruise walking out into a hall full of people shouting as he approached them in a dark red suit, cowboy boots and cowboy hat.

He later appears to be pacing back and forth in dark-lit room with wood panelling and says in a thick southern accent: “If all else fails you hit em with the truth.

“The hard truth. Just bang, bang, bang. Wooo.”

The trailer for the upcoming Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu film ends with the tagline “A comedy of catastrophic proportions”.

One of the posters for the film instead said: “Tom Cruise is Digger.

“A man. A Plan. A Meltdown.”

According to Variety, the film follows Digger after his oil company sets off an ecological disaster forcing the billionaire to embark on a mission to save humanity from his own mess.

Sharing the clip on Instagram, Cruise said: “For the last 46 years, it has been my privilege to work alongside countless talented artists and crews to create these characters, stories, and films for you all.

“I’m looking forward to seeing you at the movies! DIGGER. Only in theaters this October.”

It will be Cruise’s first film since the 2025 release of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.

It also marks Cruise’s first time working with Academy-award winning filmmaker Inarritu, who was behind 2015’s The Revenant, 2016’s Birdman and 2022’s Bardo: False Chronicle Of A Handful Of Truths for Netflix.

The full trailer is expected to be released on July 13, with the film out in October.
