The open-air terrace at Tokyo Skytree tower in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, was unveiled to reporters on Tuesday, ahead of the Oct. 23 start of guided tours offering views of the Tokyo skyline from the terrace.
Located about 155 meters above the ground on the 634-meter-high tower, this terrace will join two other Skytree viewing facilities: Tembo Galleria, which is 450 meters above ground, and Tembo Deck, which is 350 meters up.
Although the terrace is contained in the structural steel framework that supports the tower, it is not walled by glass, which will enable tour participants to enjoy the bustle of people and vehicles coming and going on the ground level while exposed to the blowing wind.
"We want people to have fun at the tower while feeling the wind, light and sound," said an employee of Tobu Tower Skytree Co., which operates the tower.
The tour will be offered at night, too, so that participants can see the Skytree beautifully illuminated with LED lights.
