Tokyo Games organizer to release 2,020 yen tickets for children, elderly

The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games said on Tuesday that it will release tickets priced at 2,020 yen to be sold to groups including children, the elderly or disabled persons to symbolize 2020 being the year of the Tokyo Games.

The committee will prepare the tickets mainly for the qualifying rounds of all sports in principle, as well as for the opening and closing ceremonies of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The idea was proposed Tuesday at the committee's expert panel on admission tickets. The committee will submit a proposal to the International Olympic Committee executive board in the middle of this month, hoping to obtain approval.

Details such as the definition of eligible children and elderly people as well as the number of tickets to be distributed for each sport will be decided later.

"We'd like a variety of people to watch the Games and pack the venues," an official of the committee said.
