Toddler in critical condition in hospital after being hit by car

A two-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after an incident outside a property in Carmarthenshire .

The emergency services were called to the Capel Seion area, near the village of Drefach, during the afternoon of Monday, March 2.

It’s understood that the girl was hit by a car on private land.

She sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident and was airlifted to hospital in Cardiff.

Paramedics in two emergency ambulances attended the scene, around three miles west of Cross Hands.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed: “We were called at approximately 12.08pm on Monday, March 2 to reports of a road traffic accident in the Capel Seion area.

“We sent one rapid response vehicle with a paramedic, two emergency ambulances and the Wales Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to hospital for treatment.”

A Wales Air Ambulance helicopter from nearby Dafen, near Llanelli, landed near the property at 12.33pm.

The girl was then treated by an on-board consultant and a critical care practitioner before being airlifted from the scene at 1.20pm.

At 1.36pm, the helicopter arrived at the University Hospital of Wales, where the child remains.

The road adjoining the land where the collision took place was closed off on Monday for around three hours, and police are now investigating the incident.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that the girl's condition is “critical”, and that a family liaison officer is currently supporting her family.
