Todd McShay makes his case for Tua Tagovailoa as better prospect than Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow’s incredible season and upside helps him sit as the best quarterback in the 2020 NFL draft class and primed for the top spot via the Cincinnati Bengals.

But don’t forget about Tua Tagovailoa.

It’s easy to do so given the impressiveness of Burrow and the Alabama star’s injury. But ESPN’s Todd McShay — who has Tagovailoa going to Miami in the first round — suggested he’s still a better prospect than Burrow.

“Tua … I would argue he’s better than Joe Burrow. When he’s right, he’s Drew Brees from the left side,” McShay said on ESPN’s First Take.

And there is nothing wrong with saying that given Tagovailoa’s resume. He was the consensus No. 1 pick for a long time and threw 76 touchdowns against just nine interceptions over his past two seasons, never mind the ability to read the field and the quick-twitch movement that makes him the perfect fit for today’s game.

That’s why the latest injury is so unfortunate and the medical check at the combine is so important. Is Burrow probably the Bengals’ pick either way? Yes. But Tagovailoa isn’t a name to discredit unless something comes up on the medical side.
