Today FM presenter Louise Duffy kept pregnancy private over worries something would go wrong

Today FM star Louise Duffy told how she kept her pregnancy private for eight months because she was worried that something would wrong.

The presenter, who gave birth to baby Esmé last July, was nearly full-term when she finally revealed that she was expecting her first child with husband Paul Galvin in May 2018.

Louise, 35, from Co Mayo, revealed that her decision to keep the news under wraps was due to her nerves as a first time mum.

“I didn’t particularly mean to keep it secret for so long but, for me, I was very conscious that I wanted her to arrive safe and sound before I started shouting it from the rooftops,” she told the Irish Mirror.

“There are so many things that can go wrong and I almost didn’t want to tempt fate.

"It wasn’t important for me to make a big announcement before she came into the world.”

Louise also joked that working in radio allowed her to escape from any cameras: “I’m lucky that I work in radio so I could rock up to work anyway that I liked.

"I don’t have to worry too much about how I look and it would be very different if I was on television.”

Louise is once again part of Today FM’s Dare to Care campaign. This year, Louise and the team are calling on the public to be a Dancer for Cancer.

While she is dusting off her dancing shoes and learning her routine for the charity day on April 30, she has no intentions of making things official and signing up for Dancing With The Stars.

“This was a one-off danceathon, for one day only. It was a lovely campaign because everybody enjoys a bit of a dance,” she joked.

While Louise won’t be donning the sequins for season four of Dancing with the Stars, she is tipping two of her famous co-stars to take part and follow in Mairead Ronan’s footsteps.

“I was on set with Ian Dempsey when we shot the campaign and I saw some moves, he is a secret twinkle toes. Fergal D’Arcy is also incredibly talented as a dancer,” she said.
