A woman says she was locked in Dollar General while shopping mid-afternoon while she was using the restroom.
In a video with over 1.5 million views, TikToker TXHippyCowchick (@txhippycowchick) walks down an aisle of the store with the lights off in the whole store.
She says the electricity suddenly went out while she was in the bathroom.
What happened while she was in the bathroom?
As she comes out, she looks around and realizes “the employees have left and locked the door.” No one else is in the store.
“I have no way to get out. And to make matters worse, I have Verizon, and Verizon is out in our entire town,” she says. “So, what should I do?”
She yells out, “Hello?” hoping to get a response from an employee to let her out.
In a short follow-up video, she says she decided to “rearrange and clean” the art aisle while she waits for someone to let her out. An hour later, she posts another update that she “got tired of rearranging” so she decided to “hang out by the self-checkout.”
In the comments, viewers share how they would react to being locked in the store.
“They’d be finding me on the floor doing crafts and eating snacks,” a commenter says.
“You have food and drinks .. bedding and bathroom … pajamas toothbrush etc you’re good, girl!” another jokes.
“Looks like a shopping spree and out the back emergency exit,” a third writes.
Dollar General workers also weigh in.
“They aren’t even supposed to leave that store if the power goes out. a manager or assistant manager is supposed to stay until close or the power comes back on due to money still in the draws. I used to be an assistant manager for them,” one writes.
“Girl, I worked at dollar general and aint no way you locked in the store,” another says.
“I work for dollar general, and I feel locked in every time I go in for my shift,” a third adds.

Was she actually trapped in Dollar General?
In a final update, the TikToker confesses that she wasn’t actually trapped. In fact, she’s a Dollar General employee.
“I was not trapped in the Dollar General. It was a joke,” she says. “Dollar General did not find my video funny.”
She clarifies that the power was out, but that there are emergency exits that would allow someone to leave the building should they be locked inside.
“I may or may not have a job there anymore,” she says. “All is well. What’s meant to be will be.”
The Mary Sue reached out to the TikToker, Verizon, and Dollar General for further comment.
