To bark or not to bark: Shakespeare's Globe recruits adorable guard dog

A doggie duo has taken TikTok by storm in their new “staff roles” at Shakepeare’s Globe.

The first pup to make an appearance on the theatre’s TikTok was the tiny black curly-furred Heidi, who was later joined by a much larger friend called Bella. Both appear to be the pet companions of staff members of the Globe.

The most successful dog-based video from the Globe has generated over 350,000 views, but each one regularly pulls in at least 10,000 clicks. Before the dogs, getting over 5,000 views was a rarity for the account.

From jumping on viral trends to showing off how good each pooch looks in a ruff, the videos document what it’s like to be a dog “working” at the theatre.

Much of their days seem to be spent lounging on stage, to the delight of tourists and audience members.

Often, the furry friends will appear together in videos, but even alone, both Heidi and Bella have plenty of avid fans waiting for updates on them.

“We need a mostly-dog production, Muppet style (one human actor and the rest are dogs),” commented TikTok user ThatIsNotMyButton, while ThasminApologist added: “Omg TWO icons in one spot???? We are undeserving”.

“I [want] ruffs for my dogs now,” asked another TikTok user. “Where can I get one?”

This question resulted in the cutest reveal of all the videos, as the Globe replied: “Fun fact, Heidi’s is a cuff as she is so tiny! I’ll talk to our gift shop about getting a dog ruff on sale!”

Who knows if the dogs’ popularity will actually result in some canine merch in the theatre’s shop, but it’s certainly pulling in more fans to the theatre’s TikTok account.

Comparisons have even been drawn between the little and large pairing of dogs to co-stars of Good Omens David Tennant and Michael Sheen.

Indeed, the similarities in David and Bella’s hair colour are astounding, while both Michael and Heidi are sporting some truly angelic curls.

One of the most popular videos sees Heidi ask Bella if she wants to form an alliance with her, using the viral clip from The Office which sees Dwight team up with Jim. One TikTok user said the video was “the best content that has ever existed on the internet.”
