TMC and AAP join Congress-led opposition Parliament strategy meet

NEW DELHI: Accepting an invite from Congress president and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, members of like-minded opposition parties met to hammer out a joint strategy and draw up a list of issues for the winter session of parliament which commenced on Wednesday.

After a long time, Trinamool Congress is taking part in the Opposition meeting. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also participating.

The meeting attended by leaders of 14 parties, including TMC, DMK, NCP, RJD, Shiv Sena, RLD, Left parties and also AAP, decided to take up Indo-China border dispute, inflation, unemployment and weakening economic situation, the “Centre’s attack on judiciary”, dilution of rights-based laws, EWS reservation, “collapse of autonomous bodies and declining credibility of the EC, misuse of agencies like CBI”, rising communal polarisation and hate speeches.

Kharge tweeted, “Parliament is the abode of democratic deliberation. We, the like-minded parties will strongly raise all the issues relevant to our people. PM Narendra Modi-ji, you spoke about opposition getting more chance to participate, therefore we expect the government to walk its talk.”

He added, “If laws are made in haste, they attract judicial scrutiny. Therefore, we expect that all important bills should be sent to joint/select committees, so that they are carefully examined. We are ready to extend full cooperation in parliamentary processes and debates.”
