TK Park is screening Laapataa Ladies (The Lost Ladies) as part of the 2026 Contemporary World Film Series, at its Auditorium, 8th floor of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road, on Sunday May 24 at 4pm.
This is one of the most talked-about indie films from India. It tells an amusing, thought-provoking tale of two brides who are accidentally swapped and end up with the wrong bridegrooms, delivering plenty of laughter and entertainment.
Beneath the humour, however, lies a strong message about how the physical ghoonghat, or bridal veil, can conceal the bride's emotions and intellectual motivations. At its heart, this is a woman's story, weaving multiple narratives through two "lost ladies" who are vastly different from each other.
Phool, the soft-spoken, seemingly helpless bride, gradually learns to become self-reliant. Pushpa, the strong-minded, independent bride, discovers the value of family love and support. The two bridegrooms too, have lessons to learn, as also the loud, outspoken police constable who judges their cases.
Laapataa Ladies is the second film by acclaimed indie filmmaker Kiran Rao, produced by Indian superstar Aamir Khan. Featuring a marvellous ensemble cast with many new faces, the film made waves internationally, winning awards at festivals around the world and being selected as India's Oscar-nominated entry.
The film lasts for two hours and comes with English subtitles. Appearing as a special guest at the screening will be Thai actress and singer Ann Mitchai, a great lover of Indian cinema. There will be a reception of Indian food after the screening.
Tickets cost 20 baht (free for TK Park members). Seats are limited.
