TK Maxx issues urgent recall for popular night light over 'shock and fire' risk

An urgent recall has been issued for plug-in night light products sold in TK Maxx and Homesense due to fears it could lead to 'electrocution or fire.'

The notice was published by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) for the Aroma Home Plug-In Salt Lamp Night Light. According to the consumer watchdog, the danger with the night light plugs has arisen as moisture from the salt lamp is able to drip on to metal components of the plug.

A total of approximately 216 plugs were sold in Ireland between December 2022 and January 2023. The CCPC notice recall reads: "The risks presented by the product are electric shock and fire.

"The plug pin dimensions and construction of the product do not meet the required safety standards. The construction of the product allows moisture from the salt lamp to drip onto metal components with mains voltage supply.

The recalled product is the Aroma Home Plug-In Salt Lamp Night Light (TK MAXX)

"This can lead to electrocution or fire," they added. The type/model number is GL093 and the batch numbers are 700540, 700545, 700549 and 700552.

Customers are being urged to stop using the product immediately and return it to any TK Maxx or Homesense store, where they will receive a full refund.
