Titans trade back in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft

The Tennessee Titans are expected to go with a left tackle or receiver with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but trading back remains a possibility, also.

And that’s exactly what The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has Tennessee doing in his latest mock draft. In it, the Titans trade the No. 7 pick to the Minnesota Vikings for pick Nos. 11 and 109 (fourth round), and a 2025 second-rounder.

Minnesota then selects Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and the Titans take Alabama right tackle JC Latham. Before I get to why I don’t like this selection, here’s Brugler’s thoughts on Latham.

If the Titans target offensive tackle in Round 1, they might feel comfortable trading back and adding picks because of the volume of options at the position. Latham didn’t test at the combine, but the 342-pounder looked outstanding in positional drills.

While this is a decent haul in terms of draft capital, I think the Titans could do better. Adding to that, Latham, who is a good prospect, is not the left tackle the Titans need. Granted, right tackle can be viewed as a position of need, but I wouldn’t be happy with addressing it here.

Not to mention, the top left tackle in the class, Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, was still on the board for Tennessee at No. 7 and I think it’s highly unlikely the Titans would trade out if he’s still sitting there.

As far as wideouts were concerned in this mock, Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze were all off the board before No. 7, and Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu was not around at pick No. 11 after going No. 10.

In this particular scenario, I’d rather take guys like Georgia tight end Brock Bowers or LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., both of whom were still on the board at No. 11, over Latham.
