Titans release punter Ryan Allen in puzzling move

The Tennessee Titans announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with punter Ryan Allen, who filled in for injured punter Brett Kern during the team’s Week 9 victory over the Chicago Bears.

In that game, Allen punted eight teams for an average of 50.5 yards per punt, with a long of 65 yards. The only thing more shocking than Allen not getting the nod once again in Week 10 is this move to release him.

Instead of not trying to fix something that wasn’t broken by deploying Allen against the Indianapolis Colts, the Titans inexplicably turned to practice squad punter Trevor Daniel.

The reason? He was better in practice. The result? disaster.

Daniel went on to have a brutal game, as he shanked one punt that set the Colts up for an easy scoring drive, and had another blocked that was returned for a touchdown by Indy.

And for that effort, it looks like Daniel will get the punting duties once again, with Kern set to miss at least one more game on IR. You simply cannot make this stuff up.

There is no amount of success Daniel can have in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens that will ever logically justify this move.
