The Titans have fired head coach Brian Callahan, Adam Schefter reported Monday afternoon.
Callahan, 41, was six games into his second year at the helm in Tennessee. Under Callahan, the Titans stumbled to a brutal 1-5 record to start the 2025 campaign with reigning No. 1 pick Cam Ward as the starting quarterback. The franchise will now set its sights on a new coach to help Ward continue to develop into a reliable starter; the Miami product has thrown for 1,101 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions across six starts in his rookie season.
Callahan went 4-19 through 23 games in his stint as head coach for the Titans that spanned less than two seasons. He previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Bengals from 2019 to ‘23.
The Titans' organization brought in Callahan ahead of the '24 campaign after sacking Mike Vrabel, a then-shocking decision that doesn't seem to have aged too well so far. Tennessee's next hire will face the tall task of turning around a franchise that has finished last in the AFC South in the last two years and has dealt with tumult and instability in its front office ever since the franchise fired GM Jon Robinson in '22.
"After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach," Titans' president of football operations Chad Brinker said in a released statement. "These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of great character. We are grateful for Brian's investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach.
"Our players, fans and community deserve a football team that achieves a standard we are not currently meeting, and we are committed to making the hard decisions necessary to reach and maintain that standard."
