'Tired-looking' Nottingham city centre building undergoing £70,000 repair works

A "tired-looking" city centre building is to undergo a revamp worth £70,000 due to its deteriorating condition.

The building in Woolpack Lane, in the Lace Market, is home to a number of businesses and currently has scaffolding around it.

The works that are being done to the property involve roof repairs, repainting the external windows, pigeon spiking the window sills and providing the scaffolding to the property.

Roof leaks on the third floor of the property mean that one of the vacant units inside cannot be let and the other unit that is due to become vacant will also be unlettable, according to a Nottingham City Council delegated decision document.

A total of £72,136 will be spent on the work.

Passers-by welcomed the investment, saying money being spent in the city centre was a positive move.

Jay Mitchell, 29, of Sneinton, said: "It's good to hear from an aesthetic point of view. It's a bit tired-looking at the minute.

"It's close to the Motorpoint Arena as well, so should have a bit of money spent to make things look nice around here."

Helen Bradshaw, 50, who works at an estate agents, of Mapperley said: "I park very close to the building so walk past it most days.

"It doesn't look fantastic, so the money is a good idea."

And Mark Hicks, a 51-year-old of Lenton, added: "It just makes sense, especially if it's leaking.

"It's quite a nice looking building really, it just needs some TLC. I'm sure it will go down well."
