Tinchy Stryder has become the first ever artist to reach No 1 with a song called … Number 1. The 21-year-old rapper from east London beat competition from both Calvin Harris and La Roux to take the singles chart top spot in an all-British top three.
Several pop acts have attempted to talk their way to the top by including the phrase "Number 1" in their song titles. From Goldfrapp to Pharrell Williams and even Sparks (with Number One Song In Heaven), the attempts are many. But none have succeeded before Stryder.
Stryder's success, alongside that of La Roux's electro smash In for the Kill and Harris's I'm Not Alone, means that Lady GagGa's Poker Face moves down to No 4, one place ahead of Eminem's We Made You.
Fans of Lady GaGa's aspirations towards world domination needn't be too disappointed, however. The American poplet has held on to the top spot in the album charts with The Fame. One place behind her this week is Depeche Mode's comeback album, Sounds of the Universe.
Beyoncé, Kings of Leon and Lily Allen also feature in the top five. The only other new entry is from Noisettes, the former rockers turned upbeat pop-merchants, who are at No 7 with Wild Young Hearts.
