Tina Turner's hometown in Tennessee to install statue in memory of iconic singer

Tina Turner resided in a small Swiss town before she died, but her hometown of Brownsville in Tennessee are now planning on installing a statue in memory of the late singer.

The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll's death was announced earlier this week, with the 83-year-old passing away of natural causes in her homeland of Switzerland.

But the local government of her hometown in Brownsville, Tennessee, where she was born and attended school, are now intending to erect a statue in her memory.

New reports say that Bill Rawls Jr, who is the city's mayor, wants a statue installed in Tina's memory, with him already obtaining support from local leaders.

A statue of Tina would likely be erected in Brownsville's Heritage Park, which is incredibly close to the high school that the hitmaker attended.

Tina was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville, and attended Carver High School, where she "socialised every chance she got".

But at 16, her nan died and she moved to St. Louis to live with her mother, which is where she graduated from Sumner High School in 1958.

Brownsville however, is the town in which Tina spent much of her youth, and is already home to the Tina Turner Museum.

Speaking to TMZ, Mayor Rawls spoke of what the statue would mean to the residents.

"When Tina stepped on stage, she owned it. We want this statue to represent that passion," he told the outlet.

He went on to talk about how much Tina impacted the world – and the residents of Brownsville.

"She showed the people of Brownsville no matter where you start, you own your story about where you end up," the Mayor continued.

The Mayor did not disclose a timeline or predicted date for erecting the statue.

Tina's passing was announced in the week, with the singer dying peacefully at her home near Zurich, Switzerland.

Tina's spokesman confirmed she died "peacefully" at home and added: "With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations."

It was revealed shortly after her passing that she died of "natural causes", but had been battling high blood pressure and kidney failure behind the scenes.
