Timo Werner's comments speak volumes about Liverpool star Roberto Firmino

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has compared Liverpool star Roberto Firmino to two of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

Werner is a player the Reds know very well, after they were extensively linked with bringing him to Merseyside last summer.

Instead of signing the then-RB Leipzig striker, Liverpool moved to bring in Diogo Jota from Wolves, leaving Werner to join Chelsea.

Had Werner moved to Anfield, he would have fought for a place in the starting line-up with Firmino as his competition.

In his first season in the Premier League, Werner scored six goals in the top flight, while Firmino bagged nine.

The Chelsea forward, who is currently with the Germany national team for this summer’s European Championships, has compared Firmino to the likes of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski.

“Of course you learn something from a striker like Benzema,” Werner told Goal .

“Just because he has achieved a lot, but also because of his quality.

"For me, he is incredible with the ball, the way he dribbles, the way he moves, the way he finishes.

“I think he’s like Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, getting the ball early, distributing and still being quick with his qualities in the penalty area.

"With Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo, he forms the top three centre-forwards for me.”
