Chinese star is back in town
It’s been two years since Chinese superstar Xu Weizhou last came to Thailand. So when the singer and actor - better known as Timmy Xu - arrived back in town earlier this month, it created a huge buzz.
The 22-year-old heart-throb was in Bangkok for a press conference ahead of his May 26 show Timmy Xu’s 2018 Light Tour Concert in Bangkok, which will take place at ThunderDome, Muang Thong Thani. At Siam Center on April 7, Timmy was greeted by a mob of fans screaming his name. The star was all smiles as he talked about his memories of his last visit and his new single.
Here are some highlights from the conference.

How does it feel to be back in Thailand after two years?
Timmy Xu: It feels great. I didn’t realise that so many fans were waiting for my return. I was worried that I might have been forgotten. So I’m so grateful to all my Thai fans.
Were there a lot of fans waiting for you at the airport?
Timmy Xu: Yes, I was given a very warm welcome. I really appreciate that. I’m also very impressed by Thai manners. Even though there were lots of people, everybody was well-behaved and polite to one another.
You’re just back from New York. What were you doing there?
Timmy Xu: I was there for a few days to film a commercial. It was very cold - it’s still snowing over there. I’ll need some time to adjust to the heat here in Bangkok. [Laughs.]
Can you tell us more about your new single “Edge of Darkness”?
Timmy Xu: It’s a rock song, as are most of the songs on the new album The Time. I’d wanted to make rock music again for a while. I was in a rock band in school, so it’s a big thing for me.
Which is your favourite track on the new album?
Timmy Xu: “Edge of Darkness” because it’s something that I’ve never tried before. I feel like I’ve achieved something new with this song. I wanted to show my fans that I’ve made progress as an artist.
Why did you decide to call the album The Time?
Timmy Xu: I wrote and recorded the songs in four different seasons. And the songs reflect four different moods.
Why did you choose to play Thailand as part of your Asian tour?
Timmy Xu: I love it here. I have very fond memories of my last visit. The concert two years ago was a big success and I promised myself that I’d come back when I released a new album. I can’t wait to see all my fans at my concert on May 26!
