COLUMBUS, Ohio _ Tiger Woods will return to the PGA Tour for the first time in four months next week at the Memorial Tournament, an event he has won five times, which bodes well as he seeks his record-breaking 83rd tour victory.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the @MemorialGolf next week," Woods tweeted Thursday morning. "I've missed going out and competing with the guys and can't wait to get back out there."
Woods joins the 120-player field at Muirfield Village for his first tour event since playing in the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles in February. It marks his first start since the coronavirus pandemic canceled tournament and delayed the start of the tour season.
Woods, who chose not to enter this week's Workday Charity Open at Muirfield, is tied with Sam Snead with 82 career tour wins.
Woods, 44, was last seen on TV competing in The Match, a charity event on May 24 in Florida in which he teamed with former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning to defeat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady.
Woods, ranked 14th in the world, won the Memorial in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009 and 2012. He has never missed the cut.
Others who committed to the Memorial on Thursday include major champions Jordan Spieth, 2010 Memorial champion Justin Rose, Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson, as well as Jon Rahm's the No. 2 ranked golfer in the world.
