Thundershowers likely in north Bihar from today

PATNA: Majority areas of the state are likely to get slight respite from the scorching heat owing to thundershowers in north- eastern districts over the next three days.

The Met office on Tuesday issued alert for thundershowers with lightning in Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Araria, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, East Champaran and West Champaran districts. The Patna Meteorological Centre stated that maximum temperature is expected to drop by two to four notches over the next three days across the state, except its south-western parts. Heatwave was not declared anywhere in the state.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Aurangabad at 41.7 degrees C. The maximum temperature at Patna was 37.2 degrees C, which was five notches lower than Monday.

Kamini Kumari, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre, said: “Moist easterly and north-westerly winds are blowing in the lower level of atmosphere at an average speed of 6-8kmph. A cyclonic circulation has formed over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. Besides, another cyclonic circulation has formed over Jharkhand and adjoining areas. As a result of such weather factors, several districts in north-eastern parts of the state, including Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar are likely to witness thundering and lightning along with light to moderate rainfall.”
