Ram raiders targeted a newsagent and stole money from its cash machine in the early hours of Wednesday morning (March 30).
Merseyside Police were called to reports that three males were breaking into McColl’s on Pecker’s Hill Road in St Helens at around 3am today. It was reported that money was stolen from the cash machine and the suspects drove off in a black four door hatchback that was parked at the side of the shop.
Officers attended the store and saw that the ATM machine was dismantled and emptied of its contents. A Black Ford Transit was left at the scene. A cordon was in place to conduct continued enquiries including witnesses and CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and keen to speak to any witnesses who saw suspicious activity on Peckers Hill Road in the early hours of this morning, or if you were driving by and have captured dashcam footage please get in touch.
“Business burglaries are not a victimless crime – they have a huge impact on shop workers and the people that use their facilities in our communities. We are determined to find these offenders and ensure other businesses are not targeted in future. If you were on Pecker Hill Road near McColl’s and saw the incident or anyone driving off, let us know too, as your dashcam, CCTV or other information could be key.”
