Thugs armed with machetes raid business - emptying safe and till and attacking owner

Thugs armed with machetes raided a Tameside business - emptying the safe and a till and attacking the owner.

At around 9.25am on Saturday, June 19, police received a report of an armed robbery on Argyle Street, Mossley.

Two men knocked on the door and assaulted the owner, before demanding he open the safe.

The thugs emptied the contents of the safe and a till before running off. A 'large quantity' of cash and jewellery was taken.

"The victim of this armed robbery has, understandably, been left scared,” DC Angela Brown, of GMP's Tameside district, said. “We are supporting him and doing everything we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"The incident happened in broad daylight near a busy junction and market, where a large car boot sale was taking place, so we know that there were a good number of people in the vicinity at the time.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who can help us identify these men or has any other information which may assist us with our investigation to contact us. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers."

One of the men was white and of average build. He was wearing black clothing and accessories and carrying a large machete.

The other man was of average build and was wearing black clothing and accessories — including black tracksuit bottoms with a red logo and stripes on the outer lower leg.

He was also carrying a large machete as well as a light blue shopping bag with a lemon on it.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 9262 quoting 1079 19/06/21.
