Thug who glassed female friend after party left her permanently disfigured

A male thug glassed a female friend who pretended to punch him after a party, a court was told.

Paul Abercomby, 32, and Alison Brewer, 35, were at a mutual friend’s house party in March this year.

Miss Brewer invited Abercromby back to her Maryhill flat for drinks and the party went on until the early hours of the next morning.

However, it was after the pair returned from purchasing cigarettes at a local petrol station that the evening turned sour.

Prosecutor Kathleen O’Donnell told the court: “An argument took place and Miss Brewer pretended to punch Mr Abercromby.

“Mr Abercromby then struck Miss Brewer with a glass tumbler that was in his hand which caused her injuries.”

A shocked Miss Brewer asked “What the f***k have you done?” as blood poured down her face.

Miss Brewer called for an ambulance and Abercromby fled from the flat.

The Scottish Ambulance services alerted the police who tracked down Abercromby in Bilsland Drive.

He gave a no comment police interview and was charged with the assault on Miss Brewer.

Miss Brewer was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and was treated for a cut on her forehead which required four stitches and a smaller cut to her which required two stitches.

Abercromby has a previous conviction for violence.

He pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault on Miss Brewer to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC deferred sentence for reports and Abercromby will learn his fate next month.

He has been remanded in custody meantime.
