A thug smashed a family's front door after an alleged dispute over cash.
Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that James Joyce threatened to "chop up" a Cumbernauld father and his son. Joyce was said to be furious over money owed for a car purchase.
The 36-year-old prisoner appeared via video link and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Dalshannon Road, Condorrat, on March 29 while on bail.
An allegation that he brandished a knife was dropped.
Lauren Cole, prosecuting, said the incident happened shortly after 10pm.
She told the court: "The [family] were watching TV when they heard a knock at the door and a male shouting [the son's] name.
"They recognised Joyce's voice, [the father] had had a disagreement with him a week prior to this and didn't wish to speak to him.
"Joyce shouted 'Open the f****** door. I'm going to chop yous up'.
"The witnesses then heard a loud noise as if the door had been kicked in and saw the bottom part had been damaged.
"The accused was shouting 'I'm going to run a machete through yous'.
"A neighbour heard the disturbance and asked Joyce if she could help. He then walked away, still shouting."
Defence agent Ian Moir said Joyce had helped [the father] buy a car and, despite several requests, hadn't received the money he was owed.
Mr Moir stated: "He lost his temper and acted in a way he shouldn't have."
Sheriff Fergus Thomson told Joyce that, given his record, jail was inevitable.
He imposed a 41-week sentence, backdated as the accused has been in custody since March 30.
