Thug headbutted partner in front of friends while holding infant son in his arms

An Airdrie thug headbutted his then partner while holding his infant son in his arms.

Frazer Ross, 23, performed the disgraceful act in front of friends on May 4.

At Airdrie Sheriff Court last week his solicitor claimed that his victim had been “moving aggressively towards him” before he saw the “red mist” and lashed out.

Ross, of George Street, appeared with a clean record and admitted his guilt, which ultimately benefited him in terms of Sheriff Frank Pieri’s disposal.

The procurator fiscal told the court: “The accused and the witness had been in a relationship since September 2018 but it’s now over.

“The incident occurred at 5.45pm when the witness, accused and two others were in the living room of the locus.

“The accused stood up with his son in his arms, approached the witness and headbutted her on the face. She was upset and began to cry.

“A witness contacted police who arrived and arrested him. The witness is also pursuing a non-harassment order to be made.”

Ross’ defence solicitor said: “Matters were fast moving in a short space of time.

“He says she was moving towards him in quite an aggressive manner.

“He’s candid about it and says he saw the ‘red mist’. This was out of character for him and his record is fine.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “Given your lack of offending I’m prepared to deal with this by way of unpaid work.

“I’ll refuse the application for a non-harassment order.

“Let it be known, though, that it is very serious to behave this way. Your saving grace is your record.”
