A toddler died after being left in a nursery school van for 11 hours on a hot summer day, it has been reported.
Myles Hill, three, was picked up by a member of staff on Monday morning and was meant to have been dropped off at one of the nursery company's two academies with other children.
But the worker who collected him returned to the other centre without realising he was still in the van, Sky News reported.
The tragedy took place in Orlando, Florida, where temperatures reached 34C on Monday.
Police chief John Mina said: "We believe Myles was in the hot van all day long, since 9am. This is your worst nightmare come true."
The driver failed to perform a head count of the children, she reportedly told police.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating and the worker, from the Little Miracles academy, may face charges.
Myles' great aunt, Barbara Livingston, told the Orlando Sentinel: "If you leave your child with someone, that person has the responsibility of taking care of them.
"He had to lose his life because of someone’s neglect. It’s not right. It’s not right at all. If you have six kids get in the van, you make sure six kids get out of the van."
