Three Welsh regions fight it out for Alex Cuthbert as Ospreys deal not done yet

The Ospreys could face competition for the services of former Wales wing Alex Cuthbert.

Cuhbert has been at Exeter Chiefs since 2018 after seven seasons with Cardiff Blues, for whom he scored 46 tries in 115 games.

He is out of contract in Devon this summer and there are believed to be a number of clubs interested in the Wales and Lions flyer, including the Ospreys and potentially two other Welsh regions, at least one of whom is said to be mulling over whether to make him an offer.

The Ospreys will not want to become involved in an auction for Cuthbert.

While he would be a useful acquisition with George North expected to miss the start of next season because of injury — the 6ft 6in Gloucester-born player could offer a physical presence out wide — injuries have meant he has played just four times for Exeter this season.

He is said to still have ambitions to add to his 47 Wales caps, but any deal to take him to Swansea would presumably need to take into account his lack of activity over the last term, while Cuthbert is said to be on hefty wages.

During his time at Exeter he has played 28 games, scoring four tries.

Nothing is finalised with the Ospreys, then.

But, fit and firing, Cuthbert is a player who could potentially add value to any squad.
