PATTANI: Three suspects wanted in security cases in the strife-torn deep South were caught at a rented house in Muang district on Saturday morning.

Amman Nitimun, 29, of Pattani’s Sai Buri district; Mamud Hayeesalae, 23, of Yala’s Muang district; and Mansor Hengpeeya, 30, of Pattani’s Yarang district, were apprehended after a team of police and Pattani military task force officers surrounded the rented house.

Seized from the house were a pistol, three motorcycles and some documents, said police.

Mr Amman, a bomb-making suspect, was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Pattani court on terrorism and attempted murder charges. Mr Mamud was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Yala court on terrorism and attempted murder charges, while Mr Mansor was wanted under the emergency decree in Pattani.

The arrests came after police had tracked down the suspects following the fatal shooting of ranger volunteer Paisarn Lalae, 27 in Pattani’s Muang district last Saturday. The victim was shot dead at his house in tambon Tanlonglulor.

The officers examined footage of closed-circuit television cameras along the escape routes, which led to the arrests of three suspects.

They were held in police custody for interrogation and legal action.
