Three rescued from roof of car after getting stranded in Northumberland river

Three people had to be rescued by emergency services after their car got stuck in a river.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service has now issued a warning to the public following the incident at the weekend.

The casualties got into difficulty at Coldgate Haugh Ford near Wooler after attempting to cross it.

Crews were called out to rescue them and pictures taken at the scene show the three people sitting on top of their car awaiting help.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Our crews rescued three people for their vehicle which had got stuck in river at Coldgate Haugh Ford at the weekend.

"Please always be careful when near water and never attempt to cross a ford or road in a vehicle if surface water is visible."
