Just when Barcelona had gone exceptionally quiet in the summer transfer window, Ronald Araújo completed a surprise move to Liverpool—and more players could follow the former captain out of Catalonia before Deadline Day.
Araújo joined the Reds on a season-long loan after two trying seasons under Hansi Flick at Camp Nou. The defender played his best minutes as an emergency striker in 2025–26, perhaps the best indicator of his shrinking role at Barcelona.
Instead of spending another season fighting for scraps, Araújo made Anfield his new home for next season, intent on bolstering Liverpool’s depleted backline. The Catalans, meanwhile, were all too happy to cash in on the Uruguayan who only started 11 games in the team’s La Liga title defense.
Barcelona will hope to offload several more players before the 2026–27 campaign kicks off. There’s also some the club can’t really afford to lose, but it might have no choice.
Ferran Torres
Just a few months ago, Barcelona planned on signing Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Argentine would join Ferran Torres in the club’s attacking ranks, marking the start of a new era.
Fast forward past the World Cup and Alvarez looks to be staying put in the Spanish capital—albeit against his own wishes—and Ferran reportedly struck an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard, whose stock rose after scoring the World Cup-winning goal for La Roja, turned his attention to the defending European and French champions after Barcelona made no move to offer him a contract extension.
Cashing in on Ferran would bring in some much-needed funds, but it would also leave Flick without a natural, first-team center forward. Should the transfer materialize, Barcelona will have to scramble to sign a striker—or else Anthony Gordon or Karim Adeyemi might be forced to lead the line.
Marc Casadó
Marc Casadó was once a bright new gem from La Masia, but he fell down the depth chart after a serious knee injury in March 2025. When he returned, he suddenly found himself behind the likes of Marc Bernal, Eric García and eventually Gavi in Flick’s pecking order.
The competition for minutes will only get worse if Rodri completes his anticipated move from Manchester City. Casadó, though, might not even be a Barcelona player by the time that transfer potentially happens.
The 22-year-old did not travel with Barcelona to Italy for the club’s triangular preseason tournament and is training separately this week. Casadó has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, and Flick seemingly confirmed the midfielder’s impending exit, admitting: “Decisions have to be made.”
Héctor Fort
Héctor Fort is another La Masia graduate that could be leaving Catalonia behind. The 20-year-old returned this summer from a loan spell at Elche, but he did not do enough to carve out a space in Flick’s squad.
Jules Koundé is once again in line to be the German’s preferred starting right back, and João Cancelo is also expected to resign with the club. Plus, the emergence of Xavi Espart gives Flick an emergency option for the right flank if need be.
There is no longer a need for Fort’s talents at Camp Nou. The fullback has been linked with several clubs throughout Europe, most recently Premier League side Fulham. The Spaniard could be the next young La Liga gem Álvaro Arbeloa entices with a move to Craven Cottage, but recent reports indicate Fort is reluctant to leave Barcelona.
