Three players Bolton Wanderers have been linked with as January transfer window approaches

Bolton Wanderers are poised to be active in the January transfer window to bring in reinforcements to the squad to help reboot their League One season.

Wanderers sit 15th in the table as things stand heading into the weekend's action which has been heavily hit with postponements after positive Covid-19 tests in squads.

That has been the case at Wanderers with the clash against Wycombe which was set to be at the University of Bolton Stadium tomorrow afternoon being postponed to a later date which is yet to be confirmed.

It is only a few weeks to go until the January transfer window opens and Wanderers are poised to be active in the market.

There are injuries in the Wanderers squad as well as departures from the club in the first half of the campaign means there are gaps in the squad which require filling.

With the rumour mill starting to turn, here's a look at three players Wanderers have been reportedly linked with as the transfer window opening approaches.

Anthony Hartigan

One area which perhaps could be seen as a transfer window priority for Wanderers is central midfield.

Departures in this area of the pitch from earlier this season include former skipper Antoni Sarcevic to Stockport County, as well as Brandon Comley being released.

Josh Sheehan is also out for the season with a ruptured ACL, and so Wanderers require extra bodies in the middle of the park.

One player they have been credited with reported interest is Anthony Hartigan of AFC Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the Wombles at the end of the season and appears to have not yet signed a new deal at the Plough Lane club after allegedly rejecting fresh terms according to reports, and thus could make a January move more likely.

Dion Charles

Wanderers lost to Accrington Stanley last Saturday in what has proved to be their last game before Christmas.

But one player who shined for Stanley last season was not in the matchday squad against Wanderers in the form of Dion Angus.

The forward bagged 20 goals in League One last campaign, but has not been part of John Coleman's matchday squad since September owing to a contract dispute.

Coleman has suggested that Charles could be sold in January if an acceptable bid comes in after he did not sign a new deal in what he has described as a 'Mexican stand-off'.

Coleman said : "If someone comes in with the right bid for him of course he'll go. It's got to be right for him as well, he doesn't have to just go to the first club that comes for him."

Reports have surfaced which suggests Charles could be on Bolton's radar in the upcoming month.

And with the player approaching the end of his deal and poised to become a free agent next summer as things stand, like with Hartigan, is that perhaps a situation Bolton could take advantage of?

Cole Stockton

Cole Stockton has been in a rich vein of form this season for Morecambe and built upon his previous campaign for the Shrimps.

Former Tranmere Rovers man Stockton scored 15 goals for the Lancashire club last campaign in all competitions as the Shrimps won promotion to League One via the play-offs.

Stockton has built on that form and flourished in the third tier of English football to become League One's top goalscorer so far this campaign with 13 strikes so far.

Reports suggested that Wanderers were interested in a January move for Stockton, who has a contract at the Mazuma Stadium until the summer of 2023.

However, Ian Evatt suggested a few weeks ago that Wanderers were not looking at Stockton, despite the links.

He said: "For now, he isn’t one we’re looking to do, and that’s the truth.

"He is doing very well for Morecambe. Cole is a player we are aware of and he’s a Morecambe player so I don’t want to go into much more detail."
