Three Manchester United players named in U25 power rankings

Manchester United trio Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Antony have been listed in rankings for players aged under 25 from Europe's top five leagues.

In data released by the CIES Football Observatory, Dalot was second to Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies in the list of 'defensive infiltrators'.

Dalot assisted Bruno Fernandes's winning goal at Southampton last month and also won a penalty that Cristiano Ronaldo converted in United's midweek Europa League win at FC Sheriff.

Martinez was ranked third for 'ground blocker filter man', which Real Sociedad defender Martín Zubimendi topped.

Antony came fifth for 'shooter infiltrators' behind Davide Frattesi of Sassuolo, Bayern Munich forward Jamal Musiala, Paris Saint-Germain talisman Kylian Mbappe and AC Milan's Rafael Leao.

The data is measured by an 'impact score' metric that assesses a player's sporting achievement and potential. CIES state it is "calculated by taking into consideration the average match level in which players participated according to the experience capital method, official game minutes played over the last 365 days, as well as pitch performance compared to both teammates, opponents and same profile’s players."

United signed Martinez and Antony from Ajax for a combined £140.81million in the summer and the latter scored on his debut in the win over Arsenal.

Martinez endured a chastening start, lining up in defeats to Brighton and Brentford and being hauled off at half-time in the latter, but he recovered to claim the United player of the month award for August.

Dalot and Christian Eriksen are the only players who have started all eight of United's games this season.
