Three flights diverted from Gatwick Airport due to issues in traffic control tower

Three flights have been diverted from Gatwick Airport because of IT issues in the air traffic control tower.

A Gatwick Airport statement said: “We have been experiencing IT issues in the Air Traffic Control tower this morning, resulting in three diverted flights.

“We continue to experience delays with both arrivals and departures, and are working to fully resolve this as soon as possible.”

Passengers have been urged to check details before they travel.

Two British Airways flights - one from Tampa and one from Antigua - were diverted to Heathrow, according to Sussex Live.

Another easyJet flight from Northern Ireland was diverted to Luton airport.

And a Tui flight from Liberia is now scheduled to land at 3am - having originally been set to land at 8.45am.

One passenger claimed they had been diverted to Heathrow on a BA flight this morning, writing: “Currently waiting at Heathrow for our diverted @British_Airways flight to be refuelled to head back to Gatwick. Mood - Calm.”

Another said they had been diverted to Heathrow but had their car parked at Gatwick.

He tweeted: “I’ve just landed in Heathrow on British Airways but my car is parked in Gatwick.

“We have a little child. What’s being done? I’m so confused by all this.”
