VISAKHAPATNAM: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Andhra Pradesh, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will organise a three-day ‘plastic-free expo’ from August 13 to 15.
For this exhibition-cum-sale, the GVMC has roped in eco-friendly product makers from across the country, including tribals from Araku who make plates out of leaves. GVMC mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari said that the GVMC banned single-use plastic products on June 5.
“We have to show some alternatives to people to help them ditch plastic. This mela will have things made out of paper, wood, etc,” said the mayor.
