'Thoughtless' joyriders who torched van in Glasgow cemetery have 'no respect' for dead

Joyriders who drove a van through a Glasgow cemetery before abandoning it and setting it on fire have "no respect" for the families of those who are buried there.

Those are the words of local politician Bob Doris, MSP for Maryhill and Springburn, in the wake of the weekend incident, which left a number of gravestones damaged in Lambhill Cemetery in the north of the city.

It's the second incident involving burnt out vehicles in the cemetery this year, after locals discovered headstones completely smashed to pieces and charred earth relating to a vehicle that had been abandoned and set alight back in January.

Mr Doris informed Glasgow Live that he has written to Glasgow City Council in relation to a previous incident and will do so again after learning of the fresh incident, even if "the fault sits clearly" with the culprits drove the vehicle through the cemetery.

He said: "Sadly this is not the first time that thoughtless individuals have shown a complete disregard for the cemetery. I have previously written to Glasgow City Council relating to such matters seeking to urge them to do all they can to tackle these dreadful incidents and to make good damage to the cemetery.

"I will of course do so again but the fault sits clearly with those who show no respect for cemetery or the families of loved ones that are buried there."
