Thomas Tuchel sanctions one more Chelsea exit after Premier League transfer deadline passes

Fenerbahce have confirmed an agreement between themselves and Chelsea for the signing of Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian striker looked set to join Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day, but a move collapsed.

Now, with the Premier League transfer window shut, Chelsea have sanctioned one more exit. Batshuayi is now set to return to Turkey after spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Besiktas.

A statement from Fenerbahce read: "Our club has made an agreement with the club for the transfer of Michy Batshuayi to our team. The football player comes to Istanbul to make the interviews, pass the health check and advance the process."

Batshuayi has now left Chelsea on a permanent basis after spending six years at Stamford Bridge. However, in that time, the 28-year-old striker made just 48 Premier League appearances – scoring eight goals in the process.

The Belgium international wants to play regular football ahead of this year's FIFA World Cup and he clearly was not part of Thomas Tuchel's plans in west London. It did look, as mentioned above, that he was set to join Nottingham Forest at one point, but the move fell through at the last minute.

The deal did not go through in time because Chelsea didn't send the paperwork to Forest in time. The Blues of course had a very busy transfer deadline day, with their focus on getting deals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria over the line.

Fortunately for Chelsea, they did manage to get both deadline day deals over the line. Aubameyang has signed a two-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months. Meanwhile, Zakaria joins on an initial loan deal, with the option to make it permanent at the end of the season.
