Thomas Tuchel's key Trevoh Chalobah mistake highlighted after Chelsea drop points vs Wolves

Can you believe that Trevoh Chalobah hasn't played a single minute of football in the last three Chelsea games amid their latest defensive struggles? The Blues defence just hasn't been the same since they became the victims of a rare thrashing by Brentford over a month ago. Since that game alone, Thomas Tuchel's side have gone on to concede 13 goals in the nine fixtures that have followed the west London derby defeat.

Under a new Todd Boehly era which is officially expected to be getting underway at the end of May, as long as the UK Government and Premier League sign off the deal which was announced early on game-day, all attentions will immediately turn to the transfer market, with the American consortium likely to support Tuchel financially.

Defensive reinforcements will be the main area of recruitment, with Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen all set to depart and move to La Liga in the summer. Currently, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Chalobah himself will be part of the current Blues cohort which is expected to be strengthened going into 2022/23. But does the latter of the trio have a long-term future in SW6?

Based on his recent game time, no is the answer and that fear could potentially lead to a potential Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Marc Guehi mistake being repeated once again. All three of the ex-Cobham graduates trio are playing well at their current clubs and Marina Granovskaia's and Tuchel's decision to let each leave has rather backfired for a side who could have done with their specialities that they are demonstrating in different regards in Serie A and the Premier League.

In the present though, Chelsea must ensure that they avoid making the same mistake with Chalobah, who hasn't seen the any game time since he was part of the backline that held out West Ham four games ago. On top of this and most significantly, Tuchel's side haven't lost a game in which Nathanial's brother has started in this term, so no wonder this topic has stirred some crazy debate on social media following the latest defensive struggles which this time came against Wolves.

Here are some of the best points from fans on social media to this selection conundrum.

@KINGKAI19628861 made the comparison: 'Confusing one, very similar to the tomori situation he is prone to a mistake but the fact he is behind sarr in the picking order is ridiculous.'

@Arningbo added: 'He made a few mistakes in a couple of games besides that he's pretty much been perfect. If that makes him prone to a mistake then all our defenders and midfielder are that.'

@Jon)DC91 worries: 'Starting to get the feeling we're selling him this summer. Wouldn't make sense with three CBs likely going out the door before him, but that's what we do.'

@GilleteHack like many others said: 'I don't get why he's not being played. I understand that he's still raw and still makes a few mistakes but he's literally better than the other options we have. Tuchel should be starting him or at the very least subbing him on.'

@adeboyemakson made a comparison of his own: 'The treatment he's getting from Tuchel is baffling. Just reminds me of what Tammy went through last season.'

The manager though has already given his reasons as to why the 22-year-old hasn't been seeing regular game time in recent weeks. He explained ahead of Arsenal: "It’s hard decisions at the moment. Maybe he feels these decisions are against him but for other players. We had recently Reece James playing in his position in the back three because of his physicality, his speed against key players on the left side from opponents.

"Trevoh played a lot and a very, very good season so far. He had a little dip of form some weeks ago but since many weeks he is back in full shape in training."

So Chelsea fans- who would you drop for Trevoh Chalobah currently ahead of Leeds if you want to see him back in the lineup? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
