Thomas Frank makes 'hostile' Everton claim before Brentford trip

By Connor O'Neill

Thomas Frank has warned his Brentford side to expect a 'hostile atmosphere' when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of their last home match against Chelsea, thousands of Everton supporters arrived early and took to the streets to produce incredible scenes as Frank Lampard and his squad arrived for the game. Banners and flags were on full display, there was constant loud singing and numerous smoke bombs filled the air to create a raucous atmosphere for the day - which eventually saw Everton win 1-0 thanks to Richarlison's strike.

Similar scenes have been seen outside Finch Farm ahead of the Blues' two most recent away trips to Leicester City and Watford as the club looks to preserve its Premier League status. Plans are already in place for another coach welcome this weekend.

JOE THOMAS: Everton have perfect opportunity to repay incredible fans and banish relegation fear

Everton currently sit two points above the drop zone after being held to a goalless draw by Watford at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night. And Brentford boss Frank is expecting tension at Goodison and for Lampard's side to come flying out of the traps.

He said: “It will be a hostile atmosphere; I am looking forward to it massively. I am expecting tension and that they will come flying at us. They will play with that extra edge and determination you only find if you are in a position like that.”

Before he continued on Everton, saying: “Everton have quality players. We face a very difficult task on Sunday. They have pace and individual quality up front with Richarlison and Gray.”

While Frank, who was nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Year award on Friday, revealed that his side will be boosted by the return of former Liverpool man Sergi Canos for their trip to Merseyside.

He said: “Everyone that was available last game is available again plus Sergi Canos which is positive. Ethan Pinnock will not be ready for Everton, maybe Leeds.

“Saman Ghoddos is also out but Frank Onyeka trained with the team today. He is now ahead of Saman and Ethan so there’s a chance [for Leeds].”

Before he continued: “You can say that we have nothing to play for, but we trained with the same intensity and focus today as we have all season.

“There are two games to be won and we can still finish top 10. It’s still very new and exciting for us; every Premier League game matters massively.

“I hope that we have signed the right characters who really want to push, no matter what. If we’ve signed players who don’t want to cross the white line and 100 percent win every time, then we’ve signed the wrong players.”
