This two-ingredient cake recipe doesn't use any flour, and it's frankly genius

If, like many people you have struggled to get your hands of flour during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, you might be excited to give this recipe a try.

Popular Australian website Kidspot shared a frankly genius idea that is so easy that children can make it: with parental supervision of course.

What's even better, the cake has just two ingredients - Nutella and eggs - both of which are in good supply in Edinburgh at the moment. Here's how you make it (full credit to Kidspot ).

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs (large,room temperature)
  • 240 g Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread

Method

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Line a 20cm round spring-form cake pan with baking paper and set aside.

  • Place eggs into mixing bowl and beat on high speed until the mixture triples in volume. This will take 5-7 minutes.

  • Spoon Nutella into a medium glass bowl and microwave for 15-20 seconds until it is soft.

  • Spoon one third of the egg mixture and fold using a metal spoon to mix in Nutella until entirely combined. Continue with another third of egg mixture and then again until all the egg and Nutella is combined.

  • Spoon mixture into cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer placed into the centre comes out clean.

  • Cool cake in pan entirely, before removing from pan. Slice and serve.

Kidspot say that you should make sure the eggs triple in volume or the cake just won't work. If you don't beat them for up to seven minutes you will end up with 'an eggy tasting mess' (their words).

You also have to be very light-handed when folding the eggs into the Nutella so you don't knock any air out of them. A grownup should probably complete this step!
