This Nate Berkus mustard pot hack showed me exactly how to elevate sauces with a vintage buy – I can't get enough

White breakfast table with pale pink napkins, pale pink dinnerware, white Moka pot and white teapot, with colorful cushions on a bench behind.

As I plan out my fall table decor ideas, I’ve mostly been focused on dinner parties and dining table styling. Then I came across an amazing hack from Nate Berkus that instantly changed how I think about any table setup. The secret? Tiny, delicate mustard pots.

I’ll admit, before watching Nate’s video, I had never even heard of a mustard pot. But I’ve since learned that these elegant little containers are an English invention, usually made of silver or glass, designed as a stylish way to serve mustard at the dinner table. Now I can’t wait to shop around for my own set to add a touch of vintage charm to my tablescapes.

Nate's chosen mustard pots were sourced from Bradley's Furniture Carriers, an antiques business that collects and ships items from UK auction houses. However, you'll find plenty of alternatives at traditional US retailers – from sleek silver pots to more whimsical ceramic options.

'These mustard pots are going to sit on our kitchen counter in Portugal,' Nate explains. 'Inside, the pots have a blue glass liner where you can put mustard, salt, or whatever you want.' It looks like Nate has pioneered a brand new way to decorate kitchen counters, with a vintage twist; I love how versatile mustard pots can be.

While I can envision a cluster of silver pots glittering in the candlelight at my next fall dinner party, Nate points out that mustard pots can be used in a variety of different ways.

'These will be great for a beautiful breakfast,' he notes. 'Jeremiah has a fantasy about what will sit on our kitchen table in Portugal. I showed him a photo of these online and said, "What about vintage mustard pots?" And here they are.'

These dainty pots might look spectacular on a dining table or countertop, but they also make a wonderful breakfast nook idea.
