This Morning viewers furious as campaigner says face masks 'infringe human rights'

This Morning viewers have hit out at a guest who appeared on the show, after they claimed that being made to wear face masks was an 'infringement of human rights.'

Last week, after much speculation, it was finally confirmed that the Government will make wearing wearing a face covering compulsory when in shops, as well as on public transport from today, July 24.

The new regulations were laid out by ministers last Tuesday, but police will have the power to hand £100 fines to people not wearing them, which will be reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.

And the issue of being made to wear them, unless you are under the age of 11 or exempt on medical grounds was discussed on Friday's This Morning as hosts Rochelle and Ore spoke to Leah Butler-Smith, who spearheaded the anti-mask protest in London last weekend.

She told them: "Under the umbrella of Keep Britain Free, people have come together through our deep concerns of the harms we're seeing caused by lockdown and the mask-wearing mandation was just the tipping point for all of us.

She added that she felt being told to wear face coverings by the Government, who she accused of "brainwashing" the public, added to people's fear but many viewers did not agree with her.

One tweeted: "Stupid stupid selfish. Wearing a mask protects other people not yourself. So if everyone wore a mask then everyone is protected," and another reacted: "What a selfish woman Leah is and amazed you gave her the time of day on air - wear masks to keep others safe for those who care about others not just themselves.

"We all have family members who are vulnerable and its the least we can do under these terrible circumstances."

And a third blasted: "All these people saying they can't wear a mask because they panic. They will panic when on a ventilator then. Plus its odd how people managed during the war with huge rubber gas masks."

Leah did get some support though, with one viewer reacting: "Good for you speaking up Leah. Most comments here have just listened to what they’ve been told and never read the medical journals that prove masks are waste of time over many years."
