This Morning's Holly Willoughby trialled with 'new' co-host as ITV show rings changes

Holly Willoughby got a 'new' co-host on This Morning on Monday, with ITV bosses trialling out a partnership with Dermot O'Leary, as they continue their search to find a full time replacement for Phillip Schofield.

It's now been nearly a month since Phillip took to Instagram, after a week of speculation around a rumoured 'feud' between himself and Holly, to announce that he was walking away from his job as This Morning host, after 21 years; a week before he issued a statement admitting to having an affair with a young runner on the ITV show.

Having previously insisted that we did have a future with ITV, the presenter than left the channel altogether with immediate effect, as he admitted lying to family, agents, ITV colleagues and his lawyers about the 'unwise but not illegal' relationship.

Holly took her half term break a week earlier than intended in light of the scandal surrounding Phillip and This Morning, returning last week when she delivered an emotional opening speech, saying she felt 'troubled' and 'let down' by what had gone on.

She was joined on her first two shows back by Josie Gibson, before Craig Doyle stepped in on Wednesday and Thursday. And, she was back in the ITV studio to kick off a new week it was usual Friday host Dermot who joined her; with him expected to front the programme with Holly for the next two weeks, having been immediate favourite with the bookies to land Phillip's main hosting role,.

Reactions to their newly formed partnership on Twitter were mixed to say the least. Clearly not a fan of it, one viewer posted: "Sorry

@thismorning @ThisMorningShow #Dermot belongs with #Alison. Pls stop trying to get a match for #Holly," with another tweeting: "2 weeks of Dermot....this could be too much. Can't remember what he's like with Holly...ao far it's just talking over each other."

Others, however, were much more open minded about Holly and Dermot hosting together, with a less critical Twitter user responding: "Dermot, Holly & James Martin. Feeling very 2008 today and I like it."
