This Morning's Craig Doyle 'emotional' as viewers call for him to get bigger role

Craig Doyle admitted that he was 'welling up' on Friday's This Morning as he appeared for St Patrick's Day and viewers made further calls for him to be given a bigger role on the ITV show.

Former Holiday presenter Craig has been handed the main hosting role on the daytime programme over the course of the last year; first teaming up with newly confirmed Bake Off presenter Alison Hammond, before going on to team up with Josie Gibson and Rochelle Humes, with his partnership with Josie coming in for particular praise from fans.

Craig made fleeting appearances on This Morning, reporting live from Galway to give a look at Paddy's Day celebrations on his home ground, as Alison and colleague Dermot O'Leary marked the occasion back in the studio. For his final piece to camera, Craig was seen atop a float in a St Patrick's Day parade as he appealed for the crowds that gathered below to shout hello to his co-stars back in London.

And, when asked by Alison and Dermot to describe the atmosphere, Craig remarked: "This is unbelievable! I'm actually like...it's welling up time.

"There's 40,000 people lining the streets of this most wonderful city."

Impressed by Craig once again, one This Morning viewer posted on Twitter: "It must be time for Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle to take over the reigns at This Morning permanently," with another reacting: "Bring back Craig and Josie"

And, joking about something Craig had said on screen on Friday, a third tweeted: "I have never had any interest in any St Patrick’s day parade until Craig Doyle on this morning said some small parades are basically a sheep in a hat on a trailer…and well, that I’d watch."
