This is when work in Castle Park is set to be completed

Castle Park was predictably heaving over the Easter bank holiday weekend with scorching temperatures combining with the global 420 phenomenon.

However there weren't as many people in there as there might have been, as a section of the park is currently cordoned off.

Workers from Bristol City Council fenced off the arena area around the bandstand in January and have since been carrying out work to make the turf more 'durable', including the installation of an 'advanced turf system'.

Speaking in January, a spokesperson for the council said: "Work is underway in Castle Park to install a new reinforced surface underneath the grass in the arena area.

"This will make the turf more durable and ensure it recovers more quickly after events.

"Improving this area of the park was identified as a priority in the public consultation we held in late 2015. A number of other priorities have since been completed."

The 'Wetherspoons Effect' sees house prices in Bristol half the city average

The work has coincided with the unveiling of an ancient well, thought to be the city's first source of drinking water, as well as a war memorial honouring Sikh soldiers connected to Bristol.

Plans were also recently revealed to transform St Peter's Church, the park's centrepiece, into an immersive visitor attraction.

So it's fair to say it's shaping up to be an exciting year for Castle Park.

When will work be finished?

A council spokesperson has told Bristol Live that workers have set their sights on completing the work by late June / early July.
