This is what's happening with ex-Nottingham Forest loanee Jack Colback at Newcastle United

Jack Colback’s future at Newcastle United may remain unclear, but unlike in previous years, the midfielder remains part of the first team squad. 

Colback, who recently enjoyed two spells on loan at Nottingham Forest, missed on being named in Steve Bruce’s Premier League squad at the start of the season.

Now into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, Colback’s future on Tyneside remains decidedly bleak with a January move possible.

A move back to Forest early in the summer looked possible for the 29-year-old, who impressed during his time at the City Ground, before the Reds and new boss Sabri Lamouchi moved onto other targets.

And following the arrival of Steve Bruce, Colback was brought back in from the cold and featured during pre-season, admitting at the time he would be keen to stay if there was a chance of him playing.

"If I’ve got a realistic chance to play, then of course (I want to stay). I loved my time here when I was playing. It’s a great place to play, St James’s. I always gave 100% for the shirt.”

Colback’s last outing for the Toon came in a 3-0 Championship win over Barnsley in 2017, and had been forced to train with the Under-23s under previous boss Benitez.
