This is what happened when someone ran out of petrol on the M62

A driver ran out of petrol on the M62 causing a lorry pile-up.

Footage from traffic cameras show Gerrard Newell's Ford S Max slow down and then suddenly stop on the motorway near the Eccles Interchange.

He sits in his car in the middle lane of a five-lane stretch of the motorway for around a minute as other vehicles swerve to avoid him.

The moment the lorries crashed was captured by traffic cameras (GMP)

Then two HGV’s approach, the driver of the one in front manages to brake and looks like he would have stopped had the second HGV not been so close behind and hit him.
